The Art of Getting Lost

You don’t really know a city until you’ve got lost in it. We know Roma really well now.

With a vague plan and a paper map in hand we set out a little before 7am thinking to idle away some time seeing lots of interesting old shit.  Our eventual path took in the Pantheon, Trevi Fountain (apparently the natural home of the Tik Tok star which seemed to have bred like rabbits even by 7:20 in the morning), the Spanish Steps (awesome at 8am), Villa Borghase, the Obelisk in some random Piazza, some dead blokes Mausoleum, Campo di Fiore, and the 1.5 million churches which call Roma home.

(On a side note, when my final days are coming I’m relocating to Rome, knowing that I can never be more then 30m from the entry to a church for a speedy death-bed confession, absolution, and fast-track to paradise.  Surely the ultimate dodge!)

Our eventual route this morning in the hands of Mr Squiggle would possibly form the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel.

The natural home of the Tik Toker, The Trevi Fountain. It’s 7am people, get a life!

Cornetto and a cappacino

An idiot

Another idiot

A pair of idiots

View from the Spanish steps is freaking awesome

Really cool square, somewhere in Roma,  not sure where

After an Aperol Spritz (undrinkable, but traditional) and some Pizza (and maybe a little Kip) it was off to the Colosseum.  Naturally our tour was under the expertise that can only be provided by a Mexican in a cowboy hat, Benjamin Emmanuelle Clint Pedro. Wowsers he was smart, and thank god for the touring yank in the “Make America Great” hat who was able to set us all straight on the beauty of the Roman Empire. For the record, Benjamin was an awesome guide.  The MAGA dude was not.

Nothing says “Roma” like a Mexican in a cowboy hat

So much old shit

This is how the Gladiators looked before a bout

And to end the day, after a lazy 23km roam through the streets, it was Trastevere for some seafood and wine. Trastevere is awesome at night!

What could go wrong?

Things were quiet until we ordered red wine to go with our seafood

And to end an incredible day, here’s some churches..

Seriously, did no one notice you were building two Catholic Churches next door?

No “ceiling white” allowed in Roma
