Ahhhh, Venice ❤️

Another day, another stunning Italian vista.  We’ve fallen in love with Venice already and only been here a few hours.  A bit of rain has helped keep people off the streets and freshened up the town as we lazily explore despite the damp.

Venice, made famous of course, by James Bond’s “Moonraker”, is everything I had hoped.  I wasn’t prepared for the volume of gondolas, seriously there are freaking hundreds and traffic jams in every canal! However the tiny streets and canals, bridges and buildings are delightful to get lost in.

Top floor yellow building is our Venice home

Our apartment is huge, and right next to Rialto Bridge

30 mins, €100, and 30 foot covered….

Famously where James Bond drove his hydrofoil-enabled gondola to escape Drax’ henchmen

Antonio Vivaldi was Master of the Violin, a composer, a Choir Master, and a priest.  Everyone knows his “Four Seasons”, but he also has a number of other notable violin concertos to his credit.  He lived and worked in Venice.  Tonight we had the incredible delight to visit Vivaldi’s Church (Chiesa della Pieta) and listen to a seven-string ensemble play the most famous of his pieces.  The church is magnificent, the performers outstanding, and the music is too beautiful to put into words. Let me share just a snippet below…

Not a bad venue for a concert

After Vivaldi the world was a happy place.  We climbed the Bell Tower in St Marks square to see 360 degrees of Venezia, and then on to dinner and some new friends from Germany, and from Pennsylvania. What a day!

Gert and Ellen from Germany; we are expected to visit their country house next year!

We meant to take a photo of our seafood platter before we started…whoops

Looking forward to the next few days exploration.  We have enlisted a secret guide with deep and abiding knowledge of Italy, known only as “Il Timoteo”.  It is extremely rare to have this honour, so watch with envy our exploits on the morrow…
