The Long Lunch

Today was all about The Long Lunch.  The perfect lunch.

We delayed our celebration of our 30th wedding anniversary until the right place at the right moment. Tims birthday added to the celebration, and what a way to do it.  Torcello is 45 minutes from Venice, the home of 6 people and 4 restaurants (seriously, 6 freaking residents and 4 restaurants, how is that a solid business operating model?), and the restaurant was awesome.  https://www.osteriaalpontedeldiavolo.com/ Osteria Al Ponte del Diavolo is worth the trip to Venice on its own.  The service magnificent, the meal exceptional, and the wines varied and delightful.  Sat down at 1, left at 4, perfecto.

We are sated; we are happy.

The happy couple

Whoops, I meant the happy couple

On the way to lunch we stopped at Murano and Burano.  Well we stopped at Murano.  Burano would have got in the way of lunch so it was a late scratching.  I’m sure it’s perfectly adequate place to stop.  Unless you are having lunch at Torcello.  Then Burano can get stuffed.

A Murano glass artwork starts like this…

Becomes this…

Then this

Murano glass can only be made by master glassmakers from Murano, and the secrets can only be handed father to son.  They tell you that you can only buy Murano glass on Murano, which puts a lie to a lot of the shops in Venice.  See the masters at work below.

We bid a sorrowful farewell to Venezia and to our wonderful companion for the last two days, Il Timoteo. You will be remembered, and be missed ❤️

  1. What a lovely way to spend a day in Italy, celebrating the 30th anniversary of some friends. The table next to us was 6 blokes at a Friday Quarterly. The three Aussies seem to have outdone the 6 on the wine list though. Enjoy the rest of your magnificent holiday Andrew and Danielle. I hope I added an enjoyable distraction half way through! Ciao
