On the trail of the Pilgrims and the Crusaders

Everyone we spoke to in planning this trip said to take some time out at a Villa in Tuscany.  Thank you to those many people, you were right - this is truly gods country.

Bagno Vignoni is a small town in the south of Tuscany.  It is also a stop over on the route Via Francigena which is the famous pilgrim route from Canterbury to Rome to visit the tombs of the apostles Peter and Paul ( we appear to be travelling backwards) as well as the route taken by the Crusaders looking to slaughter some pagans while searching for the Holy Grail (anyone else feel they need to break into a little Hunters and Collectors now?).  ( Editors note: more research may be required on the dodgy claims by the author into the crusades)

It is a stunning place, there is nowhere you look that isn’t worthy of a picture. It is famous for its thermal baths, we had a dip in the pool at the bottom of the mountain today (shown below).  The thermal spas at the top can wait until tomorrow night.

Osteria dell’ Orcia

To end the day it was a private wine tasting at our accomodation Osteria dell’ Orcia to sample the great tastes of Tuscany.

Awesome

For obvious reasons there will be no more photos today…
